U.S. Veteran

James “Jim” A. Mowery, age 66, of Athens died October 19, 2012 from complications of Multiple Sclerosis at the Veterans Nursing Home, Chillicothe.

He was born on December 24, 1945 in Lancaster, Ohio.

Jim graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964. He was a Navy Veteran and served on the USS McDonough from 1966 to 1970 in the Mediterranean during the Vietnam War. After serving in the Navy, he enrolled at Ohio University and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree. He was formerly employed as a County Veteran’s Service Officer. He was a member of the KT Crossen 21 Post, Vietnam Veterans of America, and Disabled American Veterans. Jim was also a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Athens.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Graham Mowery; sister Sue (Bruce) Morgan of Logan; sister, Norma Irvin of Dover, Delaware; nephews, Richard, Wayne, and Shawn; niece, Karen; and cousin, Martha Toy.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Helen Mowery; and brother-in-law, Wayne Irvin.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 17th at 1:30 pm the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with Rev. Kathrin Foster officiating. Entombment will be in the adjacent Church Columbarium.

Military rites will be conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion, VFW Post 3477 and VFW Post 9893 Honor Guards at the church columbarium.

Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home and will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Wednesday Free Lunch, Church of the Good Shepherd, 64 University Terrace, Athens, OH 45701.
