Elder Fred Smith, 83, of Lumberton, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, October 16, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
He served God through preaching for 60 years at several churches: Cedar Dale Baptist Church, Community Baptist Church, Red Creek Baptist Church, Red Hill Baptist Church, Mars Hill Baptist Church, Carnes Baptist Church, Lumberton Baptist Church, Elder Ridge Baptist Church, Palestine Baptist Church and Clear Branch Baptist Church. He was a member at Red Hill Baptist Church, and a U.S. Navy veteran.
His parents, Nat and Georgia Ann (Crawford) Smith; two sisters, Beulah Lee and Bessie Lois Beesley; three brothers, Bill Smith, Doug Smith, and Mitchell Lee Smith; son-in-law, Ronnie Cooley, all preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Smith of Lumberton; two children, Rita Cooley Wells and Kiahnell Smith, both of Lumberton; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Estus Smith and Allen Smith both of Lumberton.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012, at Red Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Red Hill Baptist Church 22 Stone County Rd. Lumberton, MS 39455.
