Pete Mooney

Mass of Christian Burial for Pete Mooney, age 69, of New Smyrna Beach, who died Wednesday, October 17, 2012, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20 at Our Lady Star of The Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, with The Reverend John S. Murray, officiating. Calling hours will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 19 at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Mr. Mooney vacationed here for 47 years, then moved here permanently from Kansas City 12 years ago. He was a member of Our Lady of The Sea Catholic Church and New Smyrna Beach's Sugar Mill Country Club, taught business school at Embry-Riddle for 10 years, and was former executive Vice President for Kemper Insurance in Long Grove, Illinois. Mr. Mooney loved his family and enjoyed genealogy, golfing, orchids, and cooking.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sue; 3 children, Linda (Mike) Simons of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lisa (Tim) Cillessen of Houston, Texas, and Marianne (Justin) Morgan of Shawnee, Kansas; and 8 grandchildren, Jeff, Kevin, Jenn, Hannah, Ryan, Joe, Rachel, and Drew. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Morgan.
