RHODA GRUNIN COHEN
Rhoda Grunin Cohen, 82 years young, died peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola on Thursday, the 11th of October, 2012. Rhoda was a longtime resident of Pensacola and it was here that she met her late husband, Burt Cohen, to whom she would be married for 53 years. Rhoda spent most of that time as a devoted homemaker to Burt and their three children. For a period of 10 years, she worked as an office manager for a local appliance parts business.
Rhoda was renowned among her family and friends for her culinary skills. Her specialty was baking, which resulted in a seemingly endless variety of cookies. Rhoda’s trademark mandel bread, both chocolate chip and almond, was always a favorite. And she often volunteered her services in the kitchen at Pensacola’s B’nai Israel Synagogue, where she was a member for 63 years.
No one was a stranger to Rhoda Cohen and close friends knew that she was someone on whom they could always count. And anyone who knew Rhoda knew how proud she was of her family and their accomplishments, especially her children, Jami (Alan) Spector, Donna Cohen and Joseph (Belinda) Cohen; and the lights of her life, her grandchildren: Jordan, Kyle and Shaina Spector and Harrison and Adrianna Cohen.
Rhoda’s children and grandchildren would like to give a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Sacred Heart Hospital for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in honor of Rhoda Cohen to B’nai Israel Synagogue’s “Phil Schiff Fund” or Palliative Care Department via Sacred Heart Foundation.
Services will be held Sunday, 2:00 PM at Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home with Rabbi Jordan Gerson officiating. Burial will follow in the B’Nai Israel cemetery.
Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
