Mavis Jean (Smith) Bresee, 85, long-time resident of Edgewater, passed away peacefully at the Southeast Volusia Care Center of Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Edgewater on October 6, 2012. Mrs. Bresee was born March 24, 1928 in Lakota, North Dakota to Marion William Smith and Ruth Thorson Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years, William L. Bresee, in 1996.
She will be lovingly missed and is survived by her 2 daughters, Sandra Bresee and her family of Edgewater, and Claudia (Bresee) Law and her family of Des Moines, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Bryan, Matthew and Michael Law; 4 great grandchildren, Haley, Hunter, Nicholas and his unborn sister; 3 brothers, Ralph Smith of Arizona, Marlin Smith of South Dakota and Don Smith of Iowa; and 1 sister, Arlys Sierck of Iowa.
Mavis had donated her time at the junior high school helping students to read. She worked for J.C. Penney, Meredith Printing and Nationwide Insurance. She enjoyed her grandchildren, pictures of her great grandchildren, gardening, her special friend & neighbor, Shirley Andrus and her dog, Tasha, reading, music, and of course, her chorkie, Tina, and cat, Patches.
There will be no services in Florida. She will join her husband at Riverside Cemetery in Warsaw, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mrs. Bresee's memory be made to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Attn: Southeast Volusia Care Center, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
The family wishes to thank Halifax Health Medical Center ICU/ISU for all their help and compassion, as well as the Southeast Volusia Care Center for keeping her comfortable her last week of life.
