Betty Jane Atwood Dill

Betty Jane Atwood Dill passed away on October 6, 2012.

She was born on July 21, 1921 in Astoria, Oregon to her parents, Cyrus and Vera Atwood. She attended elementary school in Mill City and later attended high school in Arcata, California where her father worked for the Humbolt Lumber Company as an accountant. Following high school, she attended Humboldt State College and took courses in pre-med. She then attended nursing school at Saint Frances Hospital in San Francisco with the intention of becoming a nurse.

She then met and married in 1942 her former husband, Leland Domeyer. While Leland attended dental school, she worked in the engineering department at the Pacific Telephone Company. During the war, she served with the liaison office for fliers coming from Australia at Hamilton Field in the Bay area. In the early 1950’s, she moved with her family to Yreka, California, where Leland practiced dentistry. While in Yreka, Betty was active in the Lutheran Church, she also helped in 4-H, was a den mother in scouting, helped in girl scouts, and was very well known by many within the community.

In 1980, she married Floyd Mason Dill. She loved to play the organ, was a gourmet cook, a master gardener and gracious host to all who would visit her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Dill and her daughter, Suzanne Graff.

She is survived by her children, Michael Domeyer, Craig Domeyer, Christine Ayster; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her brother, Kenneth Atwood.

A private family memorial will be held at a future date.
