SAVANNAH - Turner A. Baker age 79 passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012. He was born in Louisiana, but was raised in Savannah. Turner was a cherished husband, father, brother and friend. He was a graduate of the Savannah High class of 1952. He then served in the Air Force in Arizona and Germany where he was a member of the Wiesbaden “Flyers” football team. Before retiring in 2003 he owned and operated Elliott Hearing Aid Center for 38 years. Turner was a hardworking and generous person who readily helped others. He was also known as a fun loving guy and a darn good fisherman. A dedicated church member, he served as a Deacon and Chairman of Deacons. Turner was preceded in death by his father Turner Baker and his mother Elyea and stepfather Travis Elliott. He is survived by his loving wife Gretchen and their four sons, Fred S. McBride (Janna) grandchildren Ashley and Fred III, great grandchildren, Evelyn and Preston, Rev. James W. Baker (Amy) grandchildren Charlotte and Jay, Louis T. Baker (Holly) grandchildren Jessica and Grant, and Joel A. Baker (Vickie). He is also survived by his brother John R. Baker (Jan) and sister, Pat Crawford (Chuck), as well as stepsisters, Betty Heery and Nancy Lee.
The family would also like to thank all of the special care givers that took wonderful care of Mr. Baker.
