Anna Mae Dunphy, age 87 of Athens died Saturday morning, October 6, 2012 at her home.
Born Aug. 23, 1925 in Warren, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Maurice J. & Edith O’Conner Cashman.
She was a graduate of Howland High School in Warren and had been a resident of Athens since 1968. She retired from the College of Business Administration at Ohio University as an Administrative Assistant where she was employed from 1978 to 1994. The College awarded her an Honorary Master of Business Administration Degree. She was known as a great listener and mother figure to many international students. She was a very caring and giving person who truly loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. She was also an avid reader.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She had served as secretary of St. Paul’s School, while the school was in operation.
Anna Mae is survived by her daughter, Barbara (James) Mazzocca of Wheeling, WV; four sons- Robert J. Dunphy of Herndon, Va., Thomas J. (Sandy) Dunphy of Columbus, Donald J. (Sharon) Dunphy of Columbus and David J. Dunphy of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren- Kerry Dunphy, Brian (Rachel) Dunphy, Matthew Dunphy, Nicki Mazzocca, Michael Mazzocca, Erin Mazzocca, and Megan Dunphy; four great grandchildren- Tyler Davis, Trent & Troy Bradbury and Jayce Dunphy; a brother, Robert Cashman.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James E. Dunphy in 2004; two sisters- Joan Miller and Dorothy Cashman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 10:00 am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Athens with Msgr. Patrick Gaughan as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 5-7 pm at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
Catholic Ladies of Columbia will hold services Wednesday at 5:00 pm and Vigil for the Deceased will be Wednesday at 7:00 pm both at the funeral home.
