Marilyn J. Adams

Marilyn J. Adams, 78 of Centralia passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. Ms. Adams was born August 9, 1934 in Centralia, daughter of Lee N. Adams and Evelyn C. (Forward) Adams. Ms. Adams is survived by two sisters: Dolores Alexander and husband Bill of Texas and Priscilla Foltz of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Betty Adams of Tennessee; 16 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Adams and Ernest Adams, a brother-in-law, James Foltz and a sister-in-law, Grace Adams. Marilyn graduated from Centralia Township High School in 1952 and in 1954 she graduated from Centralia Township Junior College. She attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale and graduated with her Bachelors in Education and she later graduated with her Masters. Marilyn was a Teacher for almost 50 years. She taught at McLeansboro High School, Centralia High School and Kaskaskia College. She was a member of WMU and the Adult Education G.E.D. Preparation and Literacy. Marilyn was of the Baptist Faith. She was an organist for Central City Baptist Church, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Zion United Church of Christ and Fairman Baptist Church. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Funeral Services for Marilyn J. Adams will be held Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Bro. Bill McCluskey officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Reading Link at Kaskaskia College and will be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, which is in charge of arrangements.
