Robert Eaton Newman

U.S. Veteran

Robert Eaton Newman, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 30, in Vicksburg MS. Visitation will be Saturday, October 6, 12 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, MS followed by a graveside service at Highland Cemetery. 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma West Newman; two sons, Robert West Newman (Suzanne) of Memphis, TN and John Kent Newman (Debbie) of Vicksburg, MS; and three grandchildren; Christopher West Newman, Matthew Taylor Newman and Sarah Elisabeth Newman.

Rob was born in Foxworth, MS in 1923 and graduated from Columbia High School in 1943.  He joined the Army Air Corps, became a flight engineer, and was honorably discharged in 1946.  He then served in the Air Force Reserves and went to the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating in 1949. He married his only love, Norma Allyce West in 1948. Rob was employed for 32 years by the General Motors Acceptance Corp in Meridian and Jackson MS. He retired in 1982 and spent the next 15 years traveling the country coast to coast in their RV, making new friends and enjoying life. They settled in Lady Lake, FL for many years. Rob's greatest love in life was his wife Norma, and his family whom he loved and cared for deeply.

He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to the Mississippi chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
