Willard Joseph DeBlanc, Sr., a lifelong resident of Port Arthur, TX, passed away on September 25th. He was 64. Willard was born on March 6, 1948 to Helena Enette Channell and Emmet DeBlanc, Sr. He was a beloved husband and father. Survived by his devoted wife of 39 years Gloria Dean DeBlanc; children, Willard Joseph DeBlanc, Jr. & fiancée Jessica Jones and bonus grandson Jaiden Broussard of Port Arthur, TX and Kelly Ann DeBlanc Dixon & husband Hasani of New Orleans, LA.
Willard graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Lamar University. He began a career in the refinery industry at Texaco at the age of 19 and became the first black supervisor at the Port Arthur plant in 1974. He retired in 2002 after 36 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and served in many capacities throughout the years in service to the church. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Peter Claver and a faithful member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council #164.
He was preceded in death by his mother Helena Enette Channell, father Emmet DeBlanc, Sr., brothers Alton Bertrand DeBlanc & Olen DeBlanc, father-in-law Daniel Gladney, Sr., and sister-in-law Mabel Texada Rasul.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his uncle Fr. Rawlin Enette, S.S.J., aunts Natalie Brown ( Earl), Marion Mallet, and Kathlyn Richardson; brother Emmade Rasul, Sr.; three sisters Beverly Henry (Reginald), Marvel Livingston, and Nina Bragg; mother-in-law Virginia Gladney; sister-in-law Gloria Jean Lee (Chester), four brothers-in-law Daniel Gladney, Jr. (Palestine), Clifford Gladney (Jennie), Clinton Gladney (Willie Mae), and John Gladney (Velma); dedicated nieces and nephew s Avis & Kevin Channell, Leslie Lee, and Oguna & JasqueTaylor ; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 620 53rd Street, Port Arthur, TX 77640. Visitation at 8:00 AM and Service at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
