Leon Edward Brockmeier, 33, of Valrico, Florida, left this earth to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Leon was born in Miami Beach, November 4, 1978. Raised in Port Charlotte and Tallahassee, Leon graduated from Lincoln High School in 1997. It was there that his academic and athletic accomplishments led to a football scholarship with Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, “Number 67” played offensive tackle for the Wildcats and started 35 games, including 24 straight for an offense that led the Big Ten Conference in total offense in 2000 and was second in 2001. He was a member of the 2000 Big Ten Champion Team, named twice as All-Big Ten offensive lineman and lettered four years while at NU. Leon graduated in 2001 from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and a minor in Sociology. Leon spent time in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 2006, Leon Brockmeier married the love of his life, Melanie, and later became a father to his two precious boys. Leon was a devoted family man, took great pride in his sons, and enjoyed spending time with his boys, wife, family and friends. Leon taught and coached football at Freedom High School in Tampa where he was named Track Coach of the Year in 2006 for Hillsborough County. Leon was a licensed commercial real estate broker with Marcus & Millichap in Tampa.
Leon is survived by his wife, Melanie; two sons, Brodie and Carson; his grandmother, Theresa Myatt of Tallahassee; his mother, Dorothy Brockmeier of Tallahassee; seven siblings, Chris (Tammy) Brockmeier of Tallahassee, Theresa Brockmeier of Tallahassee, Barbara (Rene) Montenegro of Doral, Neal (Kelly) Brockmeier of Jacksonville, Cyril (Melissa) Brockmeier of Tampa, Scott (Jessica) Brockmeier of Tallahassee and Elissa (Adam) Fiedler of Washington, DC; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; in-laws, Jan and Dennis Michael of Valrico and brother-in-law Matt Michael of Orlando. A loving husband, amazing father, little brother, and a close friend to many; Leon will be greatly missed.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 2:30 pm at The Palmetto Club at Fishhawk Ranch, 17004 Dorman Road, Lithia, Florida 33547. A Memorial Mass will be held in Tallahassee at a later date.
