James O. Hood, age 82, of Port Orange, died Monday, September 24, 2012. A graveside funeral service will be held 10:00 a. m. Friday, September 28 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Oak Hill.
Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, Mr. Hood served our nation in the United States Marine Corps and retired as Master Sergeant. He served in Korea and Vietnam on more than one occasion. Mr. Hood was an excellent leader to the men in his care, according to those who used to stop and visit, telling stories and sharing memories throughout his life. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion in Milford, Ohio.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years, Bertha M. Hood; son, James L. Hood; three grandsons, Joshua James, James Daniel and Matthew Ronald Hood; and three great-grandchildren, Skyler Luanna, James Preston, and Morgana Rose Hood.
Mr. Hood was a hardworking man, holding several job positions throughout his remaining years after his military service. He touched the lives of most people that he met; his perseverance, determination and loving affection was an inspiration to us all. He will definitely be missed, but will always be in our thoughts and always in our hearts.
