Marie E. Bates of Lansing born August 24, 1919 in Davison, MI died at the age of 93. We feel blessed to have had Granny for so many years. Her perseverance, love, support, and determination is a lesson to us all. Marie enjoyed gardening, quilting, working on family history, and a good book was always close by. She was never happier than when everyone gathered together in one place. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd and ten siblings. Marie is survived by her sister Elizabeth, four children, Lee (Carol) Bates of Alabama, Paula (Allen) Bard of Lansing, Douglas (Susan) Bates of Holt, and Clayton (Susan) Bates of Big Rapids, ten grandchildren, Paula, Aaron, Stacey, Tracey, Kristin, Jeff, Greg, Sarah, Matthew and David, and 12 great grandchildren. The Broken Chain: We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 at the University Lutheran Church 1020 S. Harrison Rd. East Lansing, MI. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Lansing, Stoneleigh Residence or University Lutheran Church, East Lansing, MI.
