Charles (Chuck) Harvey Lipe 90 years of age, of Salmon, Idaho passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Valley View Estates in Hamilton, Montana. He had resided there since October 2010. Graveside Services will be held at the Salmon Cemetery, Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Military Honors provided by Idaho Honor Guard and American Legion Lloyd Shaw Post #67. Charles (Chuck) Lipe was born on October 14, 1921 in Salmon, Idaho to Harvey Jacob Lipe and Loella (Ella) Whittaker Lipe. A younger brother Robert was born in 1924. Later, a younger sister Shirley was adopted into the family. His father Harvey was employed at the Pioneer Ford Garage in Salmon. Chuck received his education in the Salmon Schools. Chuck and his brother Robert both served in the Navy during World War II. It was a sad day when the family received word that Robert had been killed at sea during the war. The ship he was serving on was bombed and twenty-one lives were lost from that section of the ship. After military service, Chuck married Mabel Hall Haskins in Hamilton, Montana on December 17, 1946. His parents had purchased the Pope ranch down the Salmon River. He and Mabel managed this ranch at the mouth of Colson Creek and later purchased it. They also worked a mine claim up Colson Creek. Chuck and his dad built a new Quonset building for a shop in Salmon at the end of Andrews Street. They did welding, electrical, refrigeration work and sold appliances. Gibson Appliances awarded Chuck and Mabel trips to South America, Panama, Jamaica, Hawaii, and NASA in the Bahamas, Acapulco, and Mexico. They also sold steel buildings, Ferguson tractors and New Holland bailers. They bought war surplus items and sold Jeeps, Army vehicles and airplanes. Chuck received his pilot’s license and owned an airplane. He purchased the business from his dad in 1957. Chuck and Mabel adopted two daughters in 1966. Shannon was five years old and her sister Arlana was 6 months old. The girls were both educated in Salmon schools. Chuck’s wife Mabel passed away January 15, 2000. Chuck married Dorothy Laraine Marcham on October 13, 2000. Chuck was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his second wife Laraine Lipe, daughter Shannon Layton of Clearfield, Utah, her son Jared Layton and daughter Amanda Jaquier; great-grandchildren: Libertie, Sage and Ryder; daughter Arlana Lipe and her son Johnathan Hughes, great-granddaughter Chelsey both of Anchorage, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mabel and his sister Shirley McLaughlin in 2008. Arrangements by Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon.
