Mrs. Mary Lee Gilliard

Home Going Services will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church, 634 Dawson Street, Eutawville, South Carolina. The Reverend Wayne Shaw, pastor, will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery in Eutawville, South Carolina. Viewing will be held on Thursday at the funeral home.

Deaconess Mary Lee Johnson Gilliard, daughter of the late Mr. Charlie Johnson and Mrs. Sibbie James Johnson, was born on November 8, 1917 in Eutawville, South Carolina. She departed this life on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at UniHealth Post-Acute Care Center in Moncks Corner, South Carolina following an extended illness.

She grew up in Eutawville and attended public school. She worked at various jobs in her community and surrounding areas in order to help provide for her family. She was an entrepreneur in her own right.

At an early age, she joined and became an active member of the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church, Eutawville, South Carolina.. She was a member of the Deaconess, Missionary and Outreach Ministries. She was also a member of the Christian Aide Society and the Christian Burial Association (YMCA) to name a few.

Mrs. Gilliard was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late John Lee Gilliard on November 27, 1937. They were blessed with two children.

Those who will forever cherish her in loving memory include: one son, Charlie "Boot" Gilliard; one daughter, Mamie Lee Ellis; one daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Gilliard; one brother-in-law, Thomas Gilliard; one sister-in-law, Mattie Gilliard, all of Eutawville, South Carolina and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
