James B. Barnard Jr., age 78, life resident of Altmar, passed away Friday at Oswego Hospital surrounded by his loving family. James was born June 28, 1934 in Altmar. He graduated from Altmar-Parish High School in 1952. James married Arlene Balcom on January 15, 1982. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk for 33 years, retiring in 1989. He also owned a saw sharpening business for several years. Jim was a 50-year member and officer of the Defiance Fire Company in Altmar. He was also a member of the Albion Fish and Game Club and the Niagara Mohawk 25 Year Club.
Surviving, his wife Arlene, four sons, Scott (Kathleen) Barnard of Oswego, Daniel Barnard of Baldwinsville, Bruce Barnard of Portland, OR and Gary (Lisa) Barnard of Altmar, three daughters, Cindy (Joe) Banach of Altmar, Lori (Rob) Lunz of Chicago and Nancy (Joe) Piraino of Lakeport, one stepson, Bob (Kelly) Davidson of Central Square, one step-daughter, Marsha Sottung of Brewerton, one sister, Eleanor Gillette of Rochester, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. James is predeceased by one son, Mark Barnard, who passed away in 1969, and two sisters Verna and Clara.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Altmar. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Defiance Fire Department, PO Box 174, Altmar, NY 13302.
