God saw that she was tired, so He called to her, “Come to me and I will give you rest.” She then closed her eyes and slipped into the loving arms of Jesus! We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of our dear beloved family member Ms. Bettye Myers Hollis, who God called to her eternal rest on September 9, 2012 at Roper Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina. Bettye Myers Hollis, a daughter of the late Rev. Adam and Mattie Husser Myers was born on May 5th in Berkeley County, Ridgeville, South Carolina. Bettye received her formal education in the Berkeley County School System. She graduated from Central High School in 1960 at sixteen years of age. Bettye earned her B.A. Degree in Business from Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina, and an MBA from Central Michigan University at Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She began her career journey teaching at Brooklyn Junior Academy, Brooklyn New York for several years, and then went on to teach Business Education at Williams Memorial School, St. George, South Carolina. Later she became one of the first employees as an Accountant at CR Bard, Inc Moncks Corner, South Carolina and retired from there in April 2006. Bettye was a faithful and dedicated member of Ebenezer Zion AME Church, where she served in many capacities until her health declined. To name a few: Steward, Trustee, Church Secretary, Assistant Financial Secretary, Senior Choir Member, and member of the Missionary Society. Due to her love for community and education Bettye was also a very avid volunteer in her community. Her community involvement includes; Secretary of Sandridge Homeowners Association, Poll Manager in her precinct, and Volunteer at Cross Elementary School. She was preceded in death by seven siblings. Bettye leaves to cherish her fond memories to include: her three children, Michael (Hilda) Wigfall of Ridgeville, SC, Monique Hollis of Charleston, SC and Matrice Hollis of Ridgeville, SC; four grandchildren, Zoe, Michael Jr., Myron, and Bethany, all of Ridgeville, SC; six brothers and sisters, Joseph (Martha) Myers, of Ridgeville, Edith Dorch, of Dorchester, MA., Wilson (Christine) Myers, of Ridgeville, Jessie M. (Alphonso) Ravenell, of Moncks Corner, SC, Marion Myers, of Ridgeville, SC, and Earline (Lavon) Stack, of Columbia, SC; two sisters-in- law, Mary Myers, of Holly Hill, SC and Lynn Myers, of San Diego, CA, and one special goddaughter, Audrey M. Myers of Goose Creek, SC; her two best friends, Albert Pringle Jr., of Ridgeville, SC and Diane Harris, of Moncks Corner, SC. In addition, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
