Vollics Butts

Her Life, Her Legacy, Her Story

At the break of day on July 5, 2012, “There was an open gate at the end of the road. Through which each must go alone. And there, in light we cannot see, our Father claims his own. Beyond the gate our loved one finds happiness and rest. And there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best.”

Vollics Butts was born on March 31, 1926 in Cordele, Georgia. She was the youngest of three children of the late John Goodson and Mary Goins. She was reared in Cordele, Georgia, where she attended the public schools.

In 1943, Vollics married Jimmy Butts. She journeyed to Belle Glade, Florida in 1944, where she and her husband worked tireless in the fields as a laborer to provide for their family. This include working for Billy Rogers and Duda and Sons Farms in the winter harvest. In the summer months she traveled to Maryland and New York to work. After leaving agriculture, Mrs. Ninnie became a Day Care Mother.

Vollics Butts, was a devoted mother one who always put the interest of her family first, who saw to it that her children were given the best she could provide, in loving care, spiritual nourshiment and material comfort.
