Ailsie (Williams) Bayer, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend, died peacefully in her sleep on, Sept. 8, 2012, at the age of 94 of complications from a recent stroke.

Ailsie was the first of seventeen children born to Floyd and Ada (Wilson) Williams on August 17, 1918, in Elliott, IA. Ailsie attended schools in Elliott, IA and Richland, MO. The family moved to the Milton-Freewater area in 1938. Ailsie worked in packing houses, fruit stands and later as a nanny until her marriage.

Ailsie married Albert Bayer on Jan. 2, 1942 in Lewiston, ID. She worked for many years as a childcare provider in her home while raising her family. She later worked as an Avon Representative, at Stadelman Fruit Packing Co. and finally at Rogers Walla Walla Cannery until her retirement. Ailsie was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed camping with her family and hunting with her husband and sons.

Ailsie loved people, her door was always open to family and friends, and no one ever left her home hungry. She left a tremendous legacy full of love to her children and grandchildren. They have become who they are because of her. Ailsie was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America.

Ailsie is survived by daughters, Patricia (Glen) Hansen of Roseburg, OR, and Mary (Richard) Sundberg of Walla Walla; sons, William (Colleen) Bayer of Walla Walla and George Bayer of Elk, WA; sisters, Betty Hoskins of Hubbard, OR, Rosetta Baltus of Portland, OR, Lenore Watson of Lynnwood, WA, and Letha Grubb of Sunnyside, WA; brothers, Don Williams of Deer Park, WA, LeRoy and Bobby Williams of Milton-Freewater, OR, Morris Williams of Pendleton, OR, and Stan Williams of LaGrande, OR; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert (1995); daughter, Virginia Dowell (2008); her parents; brothers, Ray, Lewis, Johnny and Jerry Williams; sisters, Leona and Lillian Shirley Williams and Avis (Williams) Ringer.

Viewing & visitation will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 10:00 AM until after the Rosary at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. The Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, 2012 also at the funeral home with Sister Helen Mason officiating. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on September 14, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Pedro Bautista Peraza, Celebrant.
