Ann Olsen Lavelle, 85, of Athens, died September 3, 2012 following a stroke. Born June 27, 1927 to the late Flay and Jaret Channell, she was raised by the late Elmer and Allie Mae Bingman together with their daughter, the late Thelma Robinson.
Ann was drum majorette in 1945 at Athens High. At Ohio University, she pledged Alpha Xi Delta and graduated with a BA in Fine Arts in 1949. A noted beauty, Ann appeared in Esquire and worked as a fashion model. She was an artist and advocated the arts in association with the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Athens Dairy Barn. She worked as a volunteer coordinator for the City of Cleveland Heights, and embraced an active agenda at the Intown Club, 21st Century Club, and Cleveland Academy of Medicine. She traveled to Turkey to promote reconstructive surgery for poor children. An enthusiastic tennis player, Ann won many tournaments representing the Cleveland Skating Club. She played golf and softball well into her 70's.
Ann was preceded in death by her first husband Karl John Olsen, MD, sisters Maxine Efaw & Othello (Yvonne) Porter, and stepfather Harold Brown.
She is survived by her husband William A Lavelle, Esq; children Kurt C Olsen & Kristin A O Kiser, their spouses Margo & William; stepchildren and spouses, Frank & Jean Ann Lavelle; John & Lora Lavelle; Lydia Lavelle & Alicia Stemper; Amy & Dave McCualsky; grandchildren Randi, Kelsey, Karl, Billy, Caleb, Adrienne, Riley and Avery.
Services on Saturday, September 15, 11 AM at St Paul Church, 38 North College, Athens, will be followed by a reception.
