MACON - Hazel Thelma Chancellor Mathews, formerly of Crawford County, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, September 11, at 1:00 p.m., at Musella Baptist Church, Musella, GA. Joe S. McDaniel, Pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday, September 10, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at McLeighton Funeral Service, Roberta. Burial will be private. A graduate of Roberta High School, she spent most of her life in Crawford County. She was Crawford County Registrar for many years and also worked in the Crawford County School System in addition to being a homemaker. “Miss Hazel” was known for her pound cake, fudge, and divinity, which she freely shared. She was also known for her flowers, especially her daffodils. She had been a member and officer of Good Earth Garden Club and the Older Americans’ Council of Crawford County. She was a member of Musella Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Minnie Chancellor of Musella; her 3 siblings, Claudia Martin, Lucille Story, and Grady Chancellor; and her husband, Francis Felts Mathews, of Culloden. She is survived by her daughter Dale Mathews of Macon. She is also survived by nieces Jeanne Reynolds, Mariann Burkhalter, Carol Martin, Juanita Childres, and Joann Thompson; and by a nephew, Tedd Martin. She is also survived by great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. Thank you to the staff of Bolingreen Health and Rehab for their kindness and care.
