Benjamin “B.L” Black of Rockford, departed this earthly life Saturday, September 1, 2012 in his home after a short illness. He was born June 28, 1930 in Belen, MS the son of Tecomseh Black and Ellen Dublen. Benjamin lived in Rockford since 1969 coming from Streator, IL. He married the former Josephine Townsend she preceded him in death. He was last employed as a surface grinder by National Grey Iron Foundry 12 years before retiring. He was a decorated Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He attended Schools in Mississippi. Benjamin leaves to cherish many loving memories, six daughters; Jomina, Dorothy, Irene, Jeanette, Teresa, and Tosha; nine sons, Bill Jr., Leon, Albert, Troy, William, John, Fidelle, Jerome and Will; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren; brother, Obediah ; two sisters, Mary and Annie B.; a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by one daughter Mary, one sister, and three brothers. Services will be held 10:30a.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home 2429 W. State St. Visitation will be held from 9:30a.m. until the time of service. Burial in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
