Claire Hartwell Ritchie

U.S. Veteran

Claire Hartwell Ritchie, 92, widow of Dr. George Case Ritchie Sr., died Sunday, September 2. Mrs. Ritchie was born May 9, 1920 in Leominster, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hartwell and one of six siblings. She was a 1941 graduate of the Leominster Hospital School of Nursing in Leominster, Massachusetts. Mrs. Ritchie was a veteran of World War II having served as an officer in the Army Nurse Corps both in the United States and in the European Theater of Operations from 1942-1945. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Mrs. Ritchie is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Spratt (Sallie) Bullock, Hull, Georgia; and sons, George Case Ritchie Jr. (Melissa), Oxford, North Carolina; and Dr. David Ritchie (Tammi), Milledgeville, Georgia; as well as one brother, Ralph Hartwell, Rio Rancho, NM. She is also survived by six Grandchildren: Dr. Stephen Bullock, Hull, Georgia; Dr. Andrew Bullock (Mandy), Greenville, South Carolina; Sara Barrett, Clayton, North Carolina; Betsy Stovall (Brandon), Oxford, North Carolina; Ryan Ritchie, Milledgeville, Georgia; and Mollie Ritchie, Milledgeville, Georgia as well five Great-grandchildren: Paisley Barrett, Aly Barrett, Grace Stovall, Truman Bullock, and Sarah Spratlin Bullock. Mrs. Ritchie is also survived by her best buddy, Mary Jane Deckard and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church from 10-11 AM on Tuesday September 4 and the funeral will follow at 11. Interment will be at Memory Hill Cemetery immediately after the service.
