Kenneth C. Kleinschmidt, 87, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services, Fond du Lac.
He was born on May 14, 1925, in Fond du Lac, a son of Paul J. and Anna P. Bahr Kleinschmidt. Kenneth was baptized on May 31, 1925 and confirmed on April 2, 1939, at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Winnebago Lutheran Academy.
Kenneth served with the United States Navy, Petty Officer First Class on the USS Alcor from July 28, 1943 until his honorable discharge on April 30, 1946. He received the American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
On June 18, 1949, he married Deloris H. Pittler.
He was employed with S.S. Kresge, Interstate Department Stores, and National Exchange Bank and Trust.
Kenneth was a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, stewardship committee, and finance committee. He also served as president of the St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran School PTO and was a past president of the Fond du Lac Credit Bureau.
He is survived by two children: Layne “Sam” (Mary) Kleinschmidt of Beaumont, CA, and Linda (Stuart) Muche of Van Dyne; five grandchildren: Kristi (Robert) Betts of San Jacinto, CA, Rachael (Philip) Mathwig of Fond du Lac, Emily, Lucas, and Aaron Muche, all of Van Dyne; two great-granddaughters: Olivia Mathwig and baby Samantha Betts on the way; a brother, David (Elsie) Kleinschmidt of Lady Lake, FL; a sister, Marlene (Ronald) Pinkert of Fond du Lac; three sisters-in-law: Eleanor Kleinschmidt of Fond du Lac, Mary Jean (Willie) Zeamer of Beaver Dam, and Joyce Pittler of Fond du Lac; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on May 10, 2007; two brothers: Donald and Bruce Kleinschmidt; two brothers-in-law: Steve (Mary) Pittler and Michael Pittler.
The family would like to thank the staff at ManorCare Health Services and Lakeview Estates for their care and compassion to Kenny in these last five years.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 1600 South Main Street, Fond du Lac, with Rev. Matthew Guse officiating. Burial will follow in Ledgeview Memorial Park.
The visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, September 3, 2012, at Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac and on Tuesday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
