A Celebration of Life Service for Alta Mae Berkenbile, age 92, will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 16, 2012, at Central Christian Church, with Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday 6:00 – 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Alta Mae was born to Lawrence and Estella (Nichols) Morris on May 23, 1920, in Dover, and passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012, in Enid.
She grew up in Dover, Oklahoma. On September 29, 1940, she married Delmar Berkenbile, and they farmed near Hennessey, Garber, and in the spring of 1950, they moved to a farm in Hunter. She was a longtime member of Hunter Christian Church, Mothers’ Recreation Club, and volunteered as a “Cheery Cherry Lady” at Bass Hospital. Alta Mae was a loving, hard-working Christian lady, and an excellent cook. The family wishes to express appreciation to Ross Hospice, Golden Oaks Skilled Nursing Staff, and Central Christian Church for their loving support of their mother.
Alta Mae is survived by her children: Joyce and Merle Young of Mt. Home, Idaho, Patricia and Walter Jenkins of Enid, Lucretia and Gary Mills of Mansfield, Texas, Jaquita and Jerry Icenhower of Yukon, Dean and Karen Berkenbile of Hunter, and Chuck and Trish Berkenbile of Haleyville, Alabama; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; two great, great-granchildren; and loving pet, Monty.
She was preceded in death by her husband Delmar, her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
