James Melton

James "Jim" Melton 78, of Clovis, NM passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Veterans Medical Center in Amarillo, TX. Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 16, 2012 at First Christian Church with Jon Forrest officiating. Burial will be at the Garden of Honor at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers include Billy Smith, Justin Brozek, Kevin Smith, Richard Villarreal, Bill Wallace and Charlie Boatman.

Jim was born June 9, 1934 to Roy Lee and Erma Mai (Nokes) Melton in Woodbury, TN. He married Joy Louise Hussey Miller March 23, 1973 in Clovis, NM. Jim served in the US Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Era retiring in 1974. After his retirement from the military he worked at the Highway Department in Texas until his retirement. He was a member at First Christian Church formerly serving as a Deacon and Elder. He was also a member at the DAV, VFW #3280, American Legion #25, Eagles Lodge, and volunteered at the Senior Meal Site and Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Melton of the home; two sons, Stanley (Darlene) Miller of Bovina, TX, and William Miller of Clovis, NM; two daughters, Jody (Kent) Stanberry of Buckeye, AZ, and Laurie (Dennis) Profeta of Tampa, FL; eight grandchildren, James Stanberry, Justin Stanberry, Luke Miller, Rebecca Miller, Hannah Miller, Heather Miller, Dylan Profeta, and Misti Thoma; and seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Bernett, Dylan Thoma, Alexia Thoma, Drake Stanberry, Carmen Jody Stanberry, James Kent Stanberry III, and Brooklyn Reese Correl. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Erma; a daughter, Leslie Morrow; and two brothers, Franklin D. Melton and Hugh Melton.

Family request memorial contributions be made to the Lighthouse Mission, P.O. Box 297, Clovis, NM 88102; or a charity of your choice.
