Robert Reed Chambers
Robert Reed Chambers, 77, of Tunnelton died Friday, August 3, 2012 at his home with family by his side.
He was born April 16, 1935, in Osage, the second son of William Franklin and Vallie Elma Nestor Chambers.
Bob’s family moved to the Tunnelton area when he was 12 years old and he attended a one- room school house through the seventh grade before graduating from Tunnelton High School. In 1954 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired with 22½ years service. Bob served at several different bases in the United States and had many TDY’s throughout the world including Korea, Vietnam and Spain. While stationed in Wichita, Kansas, in 1957, he met and married Virginia. After retiring from the Air Force he went to work for the Preston County Sheriff’s office as a jailer and was promoted to Chief Jail Administrator and retired with 16 years service. Since 1995 he and Virginia have spent winters in Florida and summers in Tunnelton enjoying the best seasons in both places. Bob was a member of the Kingwood Baptist Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 2345 in Tunnelton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia Rae Thompson Chambers; two sons, Brett Allen Chambers and his wife, Sandra and Darrell Reed Chambers and his wife, Lynette, all of Tunnelton; four grandchildren, William Reed Chambers and his wife, Cassondra, Craig Alan Chambers and his wife, Amanda and Jessica Rae Chambers, all of Tunnelton and Lucretia Dawn Moyer and her husband, Jeffery of Philippi; five great-grandchildren, Ian Nethanyel Moyer and Kaleigh Moyer , both of Philippi; Joel Groves, Gavin Reed Chambers and Kendall Grace Chambers, all of Tunnelton; three brothers, Samuel Chambers and his wife, Alberta of Akron, OH, James Chambers and his wife, Janet of Tunnelton and Daniel Chambers of Clarksburg; three sisters, Jo Ann Stieringer and her husband, Lawrence of Morgantown, Janet Chambers of Tunnelton and Patricia Morgan and her husband, Greg of Laurel, DE and three sisters-in-law, Nola Rae Wiles Chambers and Delores Chambers, both of Tunnelton and Dorna Chambers of Canton, OH.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Chambers and three brothers, William, Franklin and Richard Chambers.
Family and friends may call at the Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood on Thursday, August 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm where funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday, August 10, 201`12 with Pastor Bill Moss and Pastor Kevin Sions officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. View Cemetery in Tunnelton where military graveside rites will be accorded by VFW Post 2345 in Tunnelton and the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
