Carl Thomas Browne a lifelong resident of Pearl River, NY died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Nyack Hospital. He was 74. Carl was a gas technician chief for Orange and Rockland Utilities for 25 years before retiring. He was born February 26, 1938 in Nyack, NY to Thomas and Lottie Browne. He graduated from Spring Valley HS and attended Oklahoma Aeronautical School and worked as an air traffic controller at JFK Airport. Carl served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1963 attaining the rank of Airman 1st Class. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Locally, he was a past chief and 50 year life member of Hugh Gassner Fire Department, South Spring Valley, NY, a life member of the Rockland County Chiefs Association and the Rockland County Fireman’s Association. He is survived by his wife, Joyce L. Browne; daughters, Deborah Sullivan-Duquette, Karen Gibson, Michelle Brook and Melissa Johnston; 8 grandchildren, Frank, John, Michael, Carol, Jeanette, Jessica, Kenneth and Alexis; 3 great-grandchildren, Christian, Natasha and JP. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Campbell and Jerry Campbell; sisters, Charlotte Browne and Irene Taylor and brother-in-law, Leonard McGarvey. He is predeceased by his son William. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Margaret’s R.C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at Frederick Loescher Veteran’s Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY. Visiting is Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. Firematic service will be 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
