Funeral service for Paul Gerhardt Marxhausen, age 88, of Milaca, will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 11 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Marvin Blaske and Rev. Mark Marxhausen officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 AM at the church on Monday. Interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 11:30 AM. Music will be provided by Jane Marquardsen, Meghan Yancy and Keturah Marxhausen. Readers will be Janine Marxhausen, Jamie Marxhausen and Martha Peters. Casketbearers will include Gerhardt Buckentin, Derek Marxhausen, Kyle Marxhausen, Logan Marxhausen, Mark Peters, Eric Rathke and Seborn Yancy.

Paul Gerhardt Marxhausen was born April 6, 1924 to Rev. Ernst John August and Aurelia Marxhausen in Vergas, MN. He grew up in the Courtland area. Paul served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Alice Harmening on October 12, 1947. They raised their family in Mayer, MN and then moved to Roseville in 1977. In 2007, they moved to Milaca. Paul was the superintendent of buildings and grounds at Concordia College, St. Paul until his retirement in 1986.

Paul was blessed with a superb singing voice and shared it through church choirs, the Norwood Harmonaires, and the White Bear Barbershop Chorus. After retirement, he joined the Daytime Metro Singers and most recently sang in the choir at the Elim Home. He volunteered at the Roseville Community Center, was an election judge and a medical driver for those who needed transportation to medical appointments. He was also a master woodworker and well known for his crafts. Paul died on Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Milaca Elim Home.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice; children, Gary (Sandy) of Sebewaing, MI, Sharon (Wallace) Buckentin of Mayer, MN, Alan (Kris) of Milaca, and Mark (Julie) of Rosemount, MN; 10 grandchildren (5 spouses), 10 great-grandchildren (3 more in the near future); sisters, Omi Budahn of Courtland, MN, Ruth (Chuck) Kiecker of New Ulm, MN, and Marie (Jerry) Ludwig of Lincoln, NE; brother, Ben (Joanne) Marxhausen of Lincoln, NE; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son and four brothers, Martin, John, Reinhold, and Victor.
