Josephine M. Eischeid

Josephine M. Eischeid, 97 of Elgin, NE died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, NE with Reverend Ross Burkhalter officiating and burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Huffman-Levander Funeral Home in Elgin, NE.

Josephine Marie Eischeid was born on July 16, 1915 at Omaha, NE to Joseph and Therese (Wecker) Zimmerer. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk, NE. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated with the class of 1933, with further education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for three years.

She worked at Lincoln Liberty Life Insurance Company and during WWII, she was a Civil Service employee at the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes IL.

On October 15, 1949, Josephine married Leo M. Eischeid at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk, NE. Josephine was a homemaker, devoting her time to her husband and to their three sons: Tom, John and George.

Josephine passed away peacefully at her home on July 22, 2012 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She loved to cook and bake. She also liked to play bridge and later became a longtime member of the local bridge club, as well as dancing and listening to Big Band music. She was a member of the St. Boniface Christian Mothers.

Josephine is survived by her sons: Tom and wife Orfilia of Elgin, NE; John of Omaha, NE; George and wife Audie of Dallas, TX; granddaughters: Tracey of Davenport, IA and Carey of Elgin, NE; grandson Aiden of Dallas TX; her special caretaker Zoila Rodas; and other relatives and friends.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister at birth, and her husband Leo, who passed away on February 2, 2012.
