Barbara C. Tomooka

Barbara Ann (Cook) Tomooka, 75, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Halifax Health-Hospice of Port Orange, Florida. Barbara was born June 16, 1937 in Millen, Georgia. She graduated from Jenkins County High School, Class of 1955, attended Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, GA and graduated from Augusta Business College.

Barbara served as the Civil Service Executive Secretary to the Adjutant General (1968-1973), Director, Test and Evaluation Division (1973-1978), President of the US Army Communications-Electronics Board (1978-1986), and the Director, National Science Center Task Force (1989-1993). In addition to many exceptional performance awards throughout her career, Barbara was selected as Civilian of the Month for both the Training and Signal School sides of Fort Gordon. She has resided in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for the past 17 years.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, US Sergeant Major (Retired) Donald Tomooka; stepson and wife, Brian and Rochelle Tomooka of Windermere, FL; grandchildren, Alexandria and Nicklaus Tomooka of Windermere, FL; sister, Pat Twiggs of Clarksville, TN; niece and husband, Annie and US Master Sergeant (Retired) Ric Rhodes of Clarksville, TN; great nieces, Paige and Shelby Rhodes of Clarksville, TN.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halifax Health-Hospice of Volusia/Flagler at 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
