Courtland – Susy Whitley Britt, 88, widow of Walter Junius Britt passed away July 3, 2012 at the East Pavilion. Born in Pitt County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Lena Williams Whitley and was predeceased by a brother, Danly Hardy Whitley, three sisters, Maelea James, Magalena Hubler and Margorie Stanley and a niece, Betty Jean Burrough. She loved her childhood home on the tobacco farm in Bethel, NC. Mrs. Britt lived in “Skunk Hollow”, Moreland Street, in Courtland since 1954 and loved her flowers and kitties. She retired from hospital nursing at Southampton Memorial Hospital and private duty nursing and was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gerald W. Britt and his wife, Tina of Gloucester, Paul F. Britt and David K. Britt, both of Courtland, one brother, Walter Clayton Whitley of Bethel, NC, two grandchildren, Tyler Junius Britt and Abigail Marie Britt, several nieces and nephews and her caregivers and closest friends, Odell Harris, Kathy Tyler and Eileen Everette. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Edmund Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Courtland. The family will receive friends Friday, July 6, 2012 at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM and suggest memorials be made to the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, #20 The Koger Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, VA 23502. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
