John Seman Andrews, age 59, of Salem died Saturday morning, June 23, 2012 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Andrews was born in Salem and was the son of the late George and Rose Andrews and attended local schools. A graduate of Salem High School in the Class of 1970, he attended the Peterson School of Steam Engineering in Boston .
He then began his 37 year career in the Aircraft Division of GE at the Riverworks Plant in Lynn until retiring as a member of the Quarter Century Club.
Mr. Andrews was a man with many diverse interest, none of which was more important than his children, grandchild and friends. His passions included golf, music ( mostly blues and rock), going to concerts and Boston sports. He was a dedicated fan of all of the local teams including professional and collegiate. A patron of the arts museums, he was always ready for a cribbage or scrabble game. He took great pride in his culinary talents and sitting down with family and friends for a lively conversation over his freshly prepared meals. More recently, his granddaughter, Trinity Therese Espaillat of Salem had become his pride and joy.
John will be sorely missed and never forgotten by all who knew him. He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Rose Andrews of Salem and Victoria Therese Andrews of Danvers; former wife Janet Andrews-Howcroft of Peabody; and aunt and uncle Jimmy and his wife Alie Andrews of York Town Heights, NY, neices Lia Stephenson of Peabody and Jennifer George of Reading; his nephew Geoffrey George of Marblehead; his cousines Lia Coulouris of Athens, Greece and Fay Coulouris of Denver, CO and Christopher and his wife Kathy Andrews of New York..
He was predeceased by a brother Ron George and a sister Karen Stephenson. His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 , at 9:00AM from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St Salem to be followed by Funeral Services at 10:00 AM in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 South Common St. , Lynn , MA 01902 . Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, June 27, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM . Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery , Salem .
