Funeral services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Church of Christ in Throckmorton with Dr. Silas Short and Mr. Royce Priddy officiating. Burial will be at Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes of Throckmorton. The family will be welcoming friends at the funeral home, Tuesday evening, June 19 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Don was a veteran. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the air police. After leaving the military, Don came back to Texas and soon after, began working for Texoma Builder's Supply in Wichita Falls. He may have retired from full time work, but Don continued to work at many different things. He worked at the Watt Ranch for a period of time. He also spent a lot of time just helping people who needed help - mowing, shopping, whatever was needed.
Don had many interests and was what some would call a sport nut. He loved baseball and coached little league baseball for many years. He was also an avid golfer and considered himself a championship fisherman. On any Friday night, you could see Don (normally with Bobby and James) coaching the Greyhounds from the cheap seats. Throckmorton has lost a very avid Greyhound fan and he will be missed at the games.
Somewhere during all this, Don met and fell in love with Joy Balthrop. This love led to a marriage ceremony in Yakima, Washington on June 24, 1865. Don called Joy on the phone and asked her to marry him. When she accepted, Don's mom and dad drove Joy to Yakima to get married.
When his family thinks about Don, they will remember his sense of humor. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He had a spirit that just made you feel at home, and no matter how long you had been away from him, when you got back together, it was like you had never been apart.
Pallbearers are Don's son, Craig Bundy and Don's brothers, James Bundy, Bobby Bundy, John L. Bundy, Dale Bundy, and Bill Bundy.
