Emma Waldman, 102, of Onaka, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Bowdle Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Onaka with Fr. Kevin Doyle officiating.  Burial followed at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, Onaka.  A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Onaka with visitation one hour prior.

Emma Binfet, daughter of Joseph and Julia (Fix) Binfet, was born on November 22, 1909, in Onaka, Edmunds County, South Dakota.  She attended country school until the 8th grade. 

In November of 1931 she married Ben Waldman at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Onaka.  They lived on the Waldman family farm until moving into Onaka in 1964.  Due to failing health Emma entered the Faulkton Healthcare Center in 2010 and transferred to the Bowdle Nursing Home in April 2011.

Emma worked very hard on the Waldman family farm for many years; taking care of the family, stacking hay and milking cows.

She was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church Altar Society and also the Christian Mothers organization.  Emma enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing cards and scrabble.

Those left to cherish her life is her son: Clarence (Margie) Waldman of Aberdeen; daughters: Ruby (Joe) Werner of Ft. Pierre and Rose (Arlyn) Spindler of Hoven; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; step siblings: Roy Heintzman, Rose Fix, and Agnes Imebri; and half siblings: Tillie Mehlhoff, Ann Vetch, and Leonard Binfet.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; her parents; daughter, Bertha Tuchscherer; sons-in-law: J. Tips Hamilton and Al Tuchscherer; granddaughters: Laurie Deis and Mary Waldman; great granddaughter: Emily Tuchscherer; sisters: Katherine Waldman and Josephine Zacher; brother: Leopold Binfet; and four step siblings.


Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Emma’s arrangements.
