Greenwood, MS: Byron Keith Chapman, Sr., 64, died Monday May 28, 2012 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS. Funeral services are 10 A.M. Thursday May 31 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home with interment in Odd Fellows East. Rev. Ron Linkins will officiate. Visitation is from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Keith was born in Greenwood to James D. and Louise R. Chapman. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School, attended MS Delta Community College, the University of Mississippi and the University of Colorado. During the Vietnam war he served in the US Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees). Keith was a member of 1st Christian Church where he served as Board Chairman, Elder and Trustee. Mr. Chapman had served 3 terms as Justice Court Judge for District 2 and was a general contractor for over 15 years.

Keith was a board member for the Greenwood Leflore Fuller center, the Delta Correctional Advisory board, Vice President of board for Leflore County CWC (MDOC), treasurer for Elk’s Lodge and past exhalted ruler, Odd Fellows Lodge, quartermaster, past post commander and past district commander of the VFW “Star of the West” Post 3235, charter member of veteran’s memorial monument, member of MS Blues Fest, Greenwood Mentoring group, Greater Blessing Box, past president of the Delta Home Builders assn, and participated in the United Way’s Day of Caring.

Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Ronald Chapman. He is survived by his wife Carol Tackett Chapman, a daughter, Belinda C. Hoover and her husband Van of Carrollton, MS, a son Keith Chapman, Jr. and his wife Margaret of O’Fallon, IL, a brother, Guy Chapman and his wife Tisa of Gallatin, TN, eight grandchildren, Ben Chapman, Emma Chapman, Mae Chapman, John Chapman, Evan Hoover, Shelby Hoover, Eva Hoover and Drayden Hoover.

Pallbearers are Daryl Bush, Dudley Pleasants, Freddie Carver, Richie Fulgham, Red Bowlin, Bill Henderson, Henry Fraiser, and Mike Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers are Rocky Powers, John Pittman, Robbie Upchurch, Mike Upchurch, Les Sanders and members of the Elk’s Club.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church 615 Puckett, Greenwood, MS 38930.
