SPRINGFIELD - Donald C. Elliott, Sr., 84, a native and lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2012. Born on April 16, 1928, the son of the late Percival and Grace (Musgrove) Elliott, Donald attended local schools and graduated from Springfield Trade High School. He also served with the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, with two tours of duty. During one tour he served as a fireman on the U.S.S. Cowell. After studying the prescribed courses for the electrical field and being awarded his Master Electricians License and has been a member of I.B.E.W Local 7 in Springfield for 54 years. Donald spent 45 plus years as an employee of Collins Electric in Springfield serving on projects such as the Mass Mutual Life Insurance addition and as the job site foreman for the building of Baystate West. He developed many associations during his years on the various jobsites and would proudly like to acknowledge the longstanding friendship he had with fellow electrical worker Lenny "Murph" Parzych. Every year he worked at the Big E Fairgrounds and in his spare-time held a keen interest in the Model Railroading field. Truly Donald's favorite hobbies were his family and model railroading. Donald is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara A. Elliott, his sons Donald C. Elliott, Jr. of Ware, Springfield Police Sgt. Brian W. Elliott and his wife Sarah of Wilbraham, and his daughter Cynthia F. Powers and her husband Patrick J. Powers of West Springfield. He is predeceased by a brother, Francis W. Elliott, and a sister Marjorie Meyers. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 beginning at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee at 9 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial being held in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., Springfield at 10a.m. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Contributions in memory of Donald may be made to Griffin's Friends, c/o Baystate Medical Center, 280 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA, 01199 or to Amherst Railway Society, P.
