West Carthage - Donald T. Martin, 80, formerly of 3 High St., died Thursday, May 3, 2012, in the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carthage.

Don was born in Watertown on August 31, 1931, the son of the late Ernest and Gladys Fowler Martin. He attended school in Rodman. He served during the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force for four years. He married the former Edith R. Simmons on October 18, 1953 in the United Methodist Church in Carthage. Don retired after 26 years of service with the Carthage Papermakers where he was a foreman.

He was a former member of the American Legion and VFW, both of Carthage. He was an avid NY Giants and Yankees fan and got great enjoyment from listening to the music of Johnny Cash.

He is survived by his wife, Edith of West Carthage, two daughters and their husbands, Dawn and James Paige of Black River and Cheryl and Ernest Prievo of Carthage, five grandchildren, Scott and Amanda Paige, Joe and Kari Paige, Jennifer Prievo and Jared McGreevy and Dustin Prievo and Mindy Prievo, four great grandchildren, Nicole, Jenna, Jacob and Gavin Paige, three brothers, Laddie of Carthage, Ed of Georgia and Charles of Buffalo, three sisters, Delores Parry of Buffalo, Clistie Schriner of Rochester and Diane Martin of Connecticut and several extended family members.

Three grandchildren, Derrick, Annie and Ammie Prievo and a brother Cecil Martin and two sisters, Sally Babcock and Bonnie Wilcox, predeceased.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 4:00 pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home with the Rev. Connie Paige officiating. Burial will be at the family’s convenience. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 1-4 pm.

Donations may be made to the Champions of Hope-Relay for Life Team c/o Donald Boshart or the American Heart Assoc.
