Richard Beatty, Sr., age 85, of Port Orange, died Wednesday, May 2 at Halifax Health Medical Center, Port Orange. Born in Kearny, New Jersey, Mr. Beatty came to this area in 1988 from Bridgewater, New Jersey.
A retired electrician supervisor for Bellcor Communications, Mr. Beatty was a member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach; a member of the Gideons; and artist specializing in acrylics and water colors; and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Louisa; 2 sons, Mark of Bedminster, New Jersey, and Richard, Jr. of Port Orange; a brother David of Roswell, Georgia; and 2 grandchildren, Abigail and Gabrielle Beatty, both of Port Orange.
His funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach Family Life Center, with the Reverend Luke McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Friends will be received Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
