Alma Pearl McFadden Ayers, 98, of North Avenue, Appomattox, passed away Friday April 27, 2012 at Appomattox Heath & Rehab Center. She was the widow of John Crute Ayers, Sr. Pearl was born in Appomattox County on September 12, 1913 a daughter of the late Emma Walker Carter and Eddie Thomas McFadden. She was one of the oldest members of Bible Baptist Church and a homemaker. Pearl was a babysitter to many children in the Appomattox Community. She was loved by everyone who knew her and was called Nanny Pearl by many. Pearl is survived by her children, Robert Allen Ayers and wife Melva of Appomattox; Audrey Faye A. Crowe and husband, Fred; Mary Lucy A. Litchford and husband, Christian all of Appomattox, and John C. Ayers, Jr. of Lynchburg; ten grandchildren, Rowana Newman, Scott Shull,. L.C. Litchford, Teresa Ensley, Mechelle Eagle, Steve Shull, Connie Totty, Bonnie Wilkinson, Jay Ayers; twenty-two great- grandchildren, seven great- great-grandchildren; two sisters, Georgia DeGrange of Falls Church and Dorothy Martin and husband, Bennie of Appomattox and a sister-in-law, Pauline L. McFadden of Spout Spring. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews all of whom loved her very much. She was preceded in death by a daughter Hester A. Shull and husband, Tom; granddaughter, Margie Shull Coleman; brothers, Floyd, Charlie, Aubrey, Leonard and Ray McFadden; sisters, Ruth Waldecker, Lockie Ayers and Nellie McFadden. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday May 1, 2012 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Jonathan Watson, Rev. Robert E. Lee and the Rev. Darryl Martin. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 PM on Monday night and at other times at the home of Lucy & Christian on North Avenue.
