Rose D. Allen

JOHNSBURG — Rose Dorothea (Dalaba) Allen, 85, of Johnsburg, went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 20, 2012, from the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with her loving family by her side. God picked another flower from the Dalaba garden to be taken to Heaven. Rose has gone to be reunited in Heaven with her late husband, Lester E. Allen, and daughter, Angela Rose Noel. Rose was born on the farm on Edwards Hill Road in Bakers Mills on March 8, 1927. She was the fifth child of nine to the late John Dalaba and Hester (Rist) Dalaba Capwill. Rose attended the No. 7 School on Edwards Hill Road. She married the love of her life, Lester Allen, on April 11, 1945, and together raised their eight children. Rose was a devoted Christian, who raised her children to love and serve the Lord. She enjoyed her family to the fullest, and made many chicken and spaghetti dinners for large crowds. She was an avid reader, loved to knit socks and mittens, spending time by campfires and visiting while camping and fishing with Lester and her children. All who knew Rose loved the gentle, caring way that she loved them. In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, Rose was predeceased by her step-father, Albert Capwill; six siblings, Violet (Elmer) Heath, Blossom (Elwood) Faulkner, Daisy Allen, Fern (Arthur) Turner, Lynden (Shirley) Dalaba, and Carnata Dalaba; and eight in-laws, George (Cora) Allen Sr., Mary (Cecil) Robbins, Francis Allen, L. Arnold (Helen) Allen, Harold Allen, Gerald (Helen) Allen, John Bacon, and Elsie Allen. Survivors include her seven children, the Rev. L. Duaine (Pamela) Allen, the Rev. Ronald (Kathleen) Allen Sr., Timothy (Cindy) Allen, Kenneth (Rosalie) Allen Sr., Roy (Julia) Allen, Pamela (Eugene) Mulligan, and Carol (Roger) Lewis; son-in-law, Frank Noel; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pansy Allen; a brother, Oliver (Virginia) Dalaba; sister-in-law, Marilyn Haviland; brothers-in-law, Keith (Grace) Allen, George (Harriet) Allen Jr., J. Lee (Daisy) Allen, and Earl Allen; her dear friends, Ben and Mavis Miller; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call upon the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Sodom Community Church in Johnsburg. Another calling hour will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the church. A funeral service will follow the calling hour, Tuesday, April 24, at 1 p.m., with Rose’s sons, the Rev. Ronald Allen, pastor of Sodom Community Church, the Rev. L. Duaine Allen, pastor of Agapa Covenant Ministries, and Rose’s brother, the Rev. Oliver Dalaba, retired executive minister of Assembly of God, all officiating. Interment will follow at Mill Creek Cemetery on Garnet Lake Road. Rose’s family would like to acknowledge the extraordinary skills, professionalism, loving care and friendship Rose and her family received from the nurses, aides, and staff at Adirondack Tri-County Facility, always delivered with love and compassion. A special thank you also to Dr. Scott Munro of Adirondack Cardiology and Dr. Bryan Smead at BHHHN, for their years of excellent care and compassion that they showed and gave to Rose. In lieu of flowers, Rose had requested that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, or to the American Cancer Society, 959 Route 9, Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury, NY 12804. Condolences may be mailed to Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or emailed through
