Donald Ray Anders, 61, of Fries passed away Friday, April 20, 2012 at Twin County Regional Hospital.
He was born on June 8, 1950 in Fries, Virginia (Carroll County). He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Carolyn Anders, his parents, Dewey Anders and Elizabeth Goad Anders.
Donnie put up a courageous battle against Multiple Sclerosis all his adult life. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He always had a positive outlook and brought joy to everyone who knew him.
Donnie attended Vaughan Elementary School and Fries High School. He worked several years as an ambulance driver for Galax Grayson Ambulance Service. He was an active member of the Fries Volunteer Fire Department of many years. He coached Little League Football at Providence Elementary for many years. He truly enjoyed this and many of his players kept in touch with him and he loved hearing about their lives. Donnie attended Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church until his health declined. Donnie was employed at Reigal Textiles in Fries when he had to quite work because of his health.
Donnie is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Barry & Heather Anders; sisters and brothers-in-law: Opal and Joe Vaughan; Shirley and Bobby Byrd; four nieces: Lisa ( James) Hutchens, Gina Robinson, Angela (Monte) Blevins, Jennifer (Patrick) Cockram, one nephew: Dwayne(Valerie) Vaughan; three great nephews: Jarred Vaughan, Dustin (Catherine) Robinson, Joshua Blevins; three great nieces: Kayla Vaughan, Hartley Cockram, Addison Cockram.
The family would like to thank all the home health people who provided care for Donnie over the years while he was still at home. We would like to thank Golden Living Center for all the care and love they gave to Donnie for the years he was there.
We would like to thank the Fries Fire Department for their part in his service. It meant a lot to us. A special thank you to his three best friends Kyle & Dean Bowers and Otis Griffin for all the visits and all the joy they brought to his life. Thank you to Rev. Bob Adams. A special thank you to Kathy Dowell, for the beautiful songs.

The funeral service was held Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Bob Adams officiating. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Woodlawn, VA.
