Edwin Mantzke Jr., 87, of Freeport, died Thursday April 19, 2012 in his home. Edwin was born on May 26, 1924 in Orangeville, Illinois the son of Edwin J. and Irene (Frankberger) Mantzke. Edwin served in World War II for the U.S. Army. He worked at Kelly Springfield for 21 years retiring as a supervisor. Edwin was a former member of Red Oak Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Survivors include his ex-wife and care giver; Carol Mantzke, two daughters; Sandy Springer of Freeport and Judy (Denny) Meyerhofer of Elizabeth. Also surviving are grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; June and Carol. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday April 23, 2012 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service at Burke Tubbs. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
