U.S. Veteran

Walter H. “Walt” Dyer, age 89, born in Ashland, Kentucky, a WWII Army Veteran, died April 13, 2012, in his Glen Ellyn, Illinois, home. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Winifred “Wini” and his children Nancy (Jack) Curling, Amy (Larry) Wadler, and Carrie (Michael) Noland; his grandchildren, Jessica (Patrick) Pfeil and Mitchell Curling; Elizabeth (Aaron) Kolkay, Drew and Charles Albert; Melissa,Victoria,and David Noland; and five great grandchildren. He earned his degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri where he and Wini first met. Walt enjoyed a 50 year career starting with editing newspapers and publications in Missouri, Texas, and Illinois, working on Madison Avenue in New York and San Francisco in public relations and eventually moving to Chicago to manage communications for the Midwest Region of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a 40 year Glen Ellyn resident and member of Glen Oak Country Club. An avid sports fan who loved and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, Walt will be dearly missed. Visitation will be Sunday, April 22, 3 – 8 P.M. at Leonard Memorial Home 565 Duane St. in Glen Ellyn and funeral service Monday April 23, 10:30 A.M. at First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn.
