SPEIGLETOWN – Jane Garrity Duncan, 78, died peacefully Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Samaritan Hospital with her daughter and family at her side. Born in Troy on January 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Elizabeth Holupko Garrity. She attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School in Green Island and Catholic Central High School in Troy. She was a resident of Green Island until her marriage when she moved to Speigletown. Before her marriage, she was employed by J.A. Manning Paper Company in Green Island for 11 years. After raising her daughter, she returned to work at RPI in Troy for several years. She then was employed by the NYS Executive Chamber during the administration of Governor Mario Cuomo and later retired in 1995 from the NYS Higher Education Services Corporation as secretary to the president. Jane was a volunteer at Our Lady of Hope Residence in Latham. She loved the beaches of Cancun and touched everyone with her needlework. She was the wife of the late James H. Duncan who died July 18, 2011, Beloved mother of Lisa E. (Joseph Reed) Teller of Stephentown, Sister of Donald (Gail) Garrity of Clarksville, TN and the late William (wife Dorothy survives) Garrrity of Malta, Step-grandmother of Halsey Reed of Troy and Laken (Weston) Edwards of Colorado Springs, CO, Step-greatgrandmother of Weston Edwards, Jr.; Sister-in-law of Sheryl (late John) Burns of Saugerties and Marilyn (Michael) Esposito of Ravena, Niece of Ann Daniels of Troy and Mary Gardner of Grafton. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday at 8:45 am from the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Avenue, Green Island and at 9:30 am at St. Augustine’s Church, Lansingburgh where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 pm. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 or to Our Lady of Hope Residence, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY 12110.
