Edythe Helen Bandy, 96, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Bethany Healthcare & Rehab Center, DeKalb.

Born November, 1, 1915, in Celina, Ohio, the daughter of Jay Cappus and Margaret (Maier) Reynolds, she married Samuel-Louis Bandy on August 20, 1945, in Champaign, and together they lived in Champaign and many other locations, eventually settling in Chicago.

She was a 1933 graduate of Rantoul High School and a graduate of Brown’s Business College in Champaign, and first was employed as secretary by the Mine and Minerals Department in Springfield. Edythe then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the United States Department of Interior in a similar role. It was in D.C. where she met her future husband, a Marine, while he was assigned to the War Department near the end of World War II. Later, she worked in Chicago for Joslyn Manufacturing & Supply Company.

In DeKalb, she was very involved in the DeKalb Senior Center, where she held numerous offices within the organization.

She is survived by her son, Samuel-Louis (Vivian) Bandy Jr. of DeKalb; grandchildren, Steven Howard (Bridgette) Johnson, Michele Marie Johnson and Samuel-Louis (Bella) Bandy III, all of DeKalb, and Paula J. Bandy of Atlanta, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Brittney L. and Steven M. Johnson, Kile P. Kiesgen and Samuel-Louis Bandy IV; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Sr.; daughter, Joyce Ann Johnson of DeKalb in 2010; great-granddaughter, Ashley Johnson; parents; brother, Walter Reynolds; and son-in-law, Forrest H. “Butch” Johnson III.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, at Christ the Teacher Parish, Newman Center, 512 Normal Road, DeKalb, with Fr. Matthew Camaioni celebrating. Burial will be Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Thomasboro. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, February 27, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
