U.S. Veteran

Philip “Phil” Charles Morris, age 74 of Big Falls, passed on to our Lord on January 25, 2012 from lung cancer. Born on January 14, 1938 in Cook County, IL, he was the ninth child of Frederick and Mary (Christensen) Morris. In the 1940’s Phil and his family moved to Split Rock. He loved fishing and hunting in his younger years with his dog Butler. In 1955, Phil left Tigerton High School to serve his country in the US Navy. Upon his return from active duty in 1959, he met Nancy Curtis. On June 17, 1960 Phil and Nancy were united in marriage and would have shared almost 52 years together. He was an avid lover of baseball and was known around the area in his younger days for his home runs and pitching. Phil loved teaching his children and grandchildren to “hit that potato” and play the game. He took pride in watching his grandchildren in all their sporting events in Tigerton and Antigo. Phil fashioned a baseball diamond on the farm for both his and the neighbor children. He took such pride watching six of his children play in Little League in Big Falls. Phil was also a very proud Union Laborer worker for local #330, Appleton. He was a proud union worker for 50 years.

Phil is survived by his loving wife; Nancy, seven children; Robert (Jane), Joni Lee Morris, Janie Ann Morris, Julie Mae Morris, Philip Robert (Kelly), Jeffry William (Jill) and Alan Howard (Sally) Morris, 11 grandchildren; Jennifer, Anthony, Matthew, Tyler, Blaise, Amanda, Elliot, Ashley, Tanya, Jesse, Danielle, and two stepchildren ( Brita, Zach Lampinen) He is further survived by four great-grandchildren; Jacque, David, Aaliyah and Izaiah, three sisters; Betty Wollenberg, Dorothy (David) Kaufman and Marie Sautter, a brother; Bill, and a sister-in-law; Jean Morris.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Fred and Robert, three sisters; Hazel Marti, Grace Luedtke and Maxine (Carl) Diem, two nephews Charlie Diem and Michael Marti.

A funeral service for Phil will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 30, 2012 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Big Falls with the Rev. Janice Kuder officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at the church. Beil-Didier Funeral Home of Tigerton is assisting the family.
