Dorothy Mae Hunter Henderson was one of seven children born to the union of the late Willie Hunter, Sr. and Mary Lane Hunter on February 16, 1939.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Friendship Baptist Church in Grand Cane, Louisiana. Later she united with the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mansfield, Louisiana

Dorothy married Dewey Henderson on December 30, 1959. Together they shared eight children: Deborah, Leo (Deceased), Elizabeth, Carolyn, Sharron, Daniel, David and Tina.

She was preceded in death by her parents four brothers, Willie Hunter, Jr., T.W. Hunter, Paul Hunter and Harold Lane; one sister, Willie Lee Hunter Atkins; one son, Leo Hunter Wyatt and one grandson, Antonio Vidal Hunter.

Dorothy “Sweet Dottie” departed this life on December 18, 2011 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: a husband Dewey Henderson; seven children, Deborah Jackson (Kelvin) of Long Beach, CA, Elizabeth Henderson of Mansfield, LA, Carolyn Ashley (James) of Houston, TX, Sharron Archie (Frank) of Dallas, TX, Daniel Henderson (Kim) of Long Beach, CA, David Henderson (Carmelitha) of Mansfield, LA and Tina Dawson (Steven) of Clinton, MD; (14) grandchildren, (11) great grandchildren. She leaves three sisters, Johnnie Mae White (Raymond) of Mansfield, LA, Cleo Frazier (Theodore) of Victorville, CA and Inesia Sanders of Mansfield, LA; one brother Eddie Smith of Mansfield, LA. A dear friend Essex (Tom) McGee of Mansfield, LA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends left to cherish her memory.
