Florence Aquilla Alderfer - 86, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Hickory, NC entered into rest on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

Born in Bedminster Twp., PA to the late Henry and Aquilla (Miller) Alderfer.

Florence received her nurses training at Grand View Hospital and from Eastern Mennonite College. Following her training, she went into voluntary service spending time in migrant camps in Texas and Arizona.

Florence then worked at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory, NC for 30 years, until retiring in 1992. After retiring, she moved to the Souderton Mennonite Homes where she worked as a nurse for a short while.

Florence was a leader for Wayfarers Club in Hickory, NC as well as teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, macramé, crocheting, tatting.

Florence was a member of Deep Run Mennonite Church East of Perkasie, PA and Hickory Mennonite Church in Hickory, NC.

She is survived by: Grace Scheetz (Sister) of Souderton, PA; Mary Rice (Sister) of Souderton, PA; Elizabeth Myers (Sister) of Souderton, PA; Claude Alderfer (Brother) of Souderton, PA; Alice Detweiler (Sister) & husband, Elmer of Bedminster, PA; Miriam Detweiler (Sister) & husband, Durrell of Hickory, NC; Pearl Freed (Sister) & husband, Norman of Perkasie, PA; Gladys Alderfer (Sister-In-Law) of Troy, PA.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Willard Alderfer.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Souderton Mennonite Summit View Auditorium, 207 W. Summit St., Souderton, PA where friends may meet with the family from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Mountain View Mennonite Church, 5252 Highway 10 West, Hickory, NC.

Burial will take place at Deep Run Mennonite Cemetery East.
